Duties of a Police Officer at the University of Notre Dame include responsibility for the prevention, detection, and investigation of criminal activity, as well as violations of the University rules of conduct. This will involve completing reports, processing crime scenes, collecting evidence, providing traffic and parking enforcement, testifying in court and at University proceedings, promoting a safe and orderly environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors alike, protecting dignitaries, providing security at sporting and other events, and completing training as directed by the Indiana Law Enforcement Training Board, the University Administration, and the Chief of Police or his/her designee.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Ability to communicate with various constituencies
  • Ability to supervise and adapt to rapidly changing situations, making appropriate decisions under stressful circumstances
  • Must maintain strong customer service focus even in difficult policing situations
  • Must meet minimum standards regarding acceptance for training by the Indiana Law Enforcement Training Board as specified in Indiana Administrative Code Title 250 Rule 3.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • College Degree
  • Minimum of 3 years experience as a Police
    Officer or 1 year employed by the Notre Dame
    Police Department
  • Employed by the University of Notre Dame for
    1 year
